Strange Planet - Ludum Dare Post Mortem

Thanks everyone who has played and given feedback on my game so far.

This was my first ever game jam and so far the feedback has been mostly positive which I am super thankful for. It seems like most people really enjoyed my art and found the game simple but fun.

There were some things I wish I had more time to work on, but I just ran out of time. I tried to meet the Comp deadline but missed it by a couple of hours after I was trying to fix some last minute things. Most people mention the lack of music and how it would have added a little more mood to the game. It was one of the last things I was trying to work on before the deadline, but decided in order to fix the broken stuff I needed to scrap the idea of doing music at the last minute.

Others mentioned incorporating the looping world more into the gameplay. Originally I had planned the game to be very different, involving the looping world making you travel through time. Which is why there are days in the game. The idea was that you would travel forward and backward through time depending which direction you ran. But it became overly complex and I didn't think I could finish it in time. So I reworked it into a twin stick shooter with simple mechanics and added some charming quips by the hero to make the game fun. There are some minor balance things that I could adjust to make use of the looping as people have suggested, such as spawning enemies in different areas so they don't appear from the edges.

Overall I am happy with how it turned out and I think people seem to be enjoying it, which is awesome. I'm also surprised that it has gotten as much attention as it has considering this was my first game jam and the first game I've ever released publicly.
